Rare and original, 1890’s Cabinet Card Photograph of a Double Armed, Native American Indian Oregon “Cowboy”.
This fascinating, period, Card Mount Photograph measures approx. 3 7/8” by 5 3/8” and is mounted on its original Card Mount (mount measures approx. 4 1/4” by 6 1/2”). The Photo is a full figure portrait of the young Native American Cowboy wearing Anglo style garb including a wide brimmed hat, vest and work pants. He holds the barrel of an 1876 Winchester Lever Action Repeating Rifle and a Colt Single Action Revolver is tucked in the waistband of his pants. The mount carries the mark of the Heppner, Oregon photographer Theodore Danner.
The Subject of this wonderful Photo Portrait is not identified (as to Tribe or Name) and we are not experts in the identification of Native American Tribe affiliations. If anyone can help us to definitively identify this wonderful Image, the information would be greatly appreciated. Our best guess is that he is an Oregon ranch hand.
This rare and wonderful, Native American Indian, Cabinet Card Photograph is in very good condition only. The Photograph exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. There is some foxing to the Image at the lower right hand corner. The card mount has some soiling and light edge wear as well as a water stain on the back.
