    Description

Very RARE Lot of 5 Early Antique Stereo Views of ALASKAN Indians & Towns, Klondike, Yukon, Juneau, Sitka, Totem Poles, c.1905
    DESCRIPTION:
Particularly nice lot of 5 very RARE & EARLY ANTIQUE 1905 stereo photographic cards showing A VARIETY OF EARLY ALASKAN SCENES. Shows both Alaskan Indian related scenes as well as Yukon/Klondike gold rush related scenes. THE GOLD ALASKAN GOLD RUSH WAS STILL AGGRESSIVELY ACTIVE IN 1905!!
These are the standard double photos so that in the stereoptican viewing device they produces an interesting 3-dimensional and magnified effect, like a modern Viewmaster. Very popular during this time.
THESE ARE PARTICULARLY RARE IN COLOR!!
As indicated, these are as rare and unusual scenes and antique cards as you will find. Scans show them all in detail. A variety of views, each described on the backs. Specific scenes are:
    1) Kasa-an Village, Indians and canoes, Alaska. A great scene of this Indian Village with canoes in foreground and LOADS OF TOTEM POLES in background.
    2) Juneau City from across Gastinean Channel, Alaska, one of the principal outfitting stations for Yukon miners
    3) Street on Ocean Front, Juneau City, Alaska, an early period scene of the modern city of Juneau. Very primitive looking place then!
    4) The principal street of Gold Bottom, the Klondike, Alaska, a major town near the Klondike gold fields.
    5) Sitka Bay, Indians in Canoe, Sitka, Alaska. Sitka was the capital of Alaska at the time.
Stereo cards were an extremely popular way of conveying to the people at the time he great number of photographs available from around the world in a day when people were interested in things around the world, but few people travelled.
Scans show the details. This is a very unusual photo lot, and I have never seen anything like them and such early, contemmporary pictures of such a primitive but important place. VERY RARE STEREO  PHOTO CARDS & SUPER SUBJECT MATTER!!
    IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
