Description
Two original albumen prints from 1890 and 1891, taken by Northwestern Photo Co. of Chadron, Nebraska, whose company is well known for documenting the aftermath of the Wounded Knee massacre. The first photo, taken by photographer Clarence Moreledge, shows an artillery company, posing next to its battery cannon, likely taken in late November 1890. Photo measures 7'' x 4.25'' on a 10'' x 7'' album mat, the verso of which contains another 7'' x 4.25'' photo of the 1st U.S. Infantry in January 1891, just after the Massacre. Published in ''Eyewitness at Wounded Knee'', the Infantry originally arrived at Pine Ridge in December 1890, when federal forces descended upon the community to combat the Sioux ''Ghost Dancers''. Some buckling and staining to mat, but both photos are bold and well contrasted, in near fine condition.PAYMENTS
